Spring Workshops 2004

The NCPMA is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring a series of 2-part workshops. The workshops will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Lunch is on your own from noon to 1 pm, and afternoon workshops begin at 1 pm. Workshops are free to government employees at the municipal, county, state, or federal level in North Carolina. The Metadata workshop will be held in all four locations. The second workshop for the Northeast will be DOT Right-of-Way Plan Reading, while the other three locations will have the NC Floodmapping Program Workshop. See the chart below for locations and which workshop is offered in each time slot.

The metadata workshop is being presented by the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis. It is geared toward GIS staff in any department which creates GIS Data. Metadata is "data about data" with standards and conventions on format. Participants in the NC One Map program are required to have FGDC-Compliant Metadata. This workshop will help you get started on creating metadata.

Participants who did not attend the DOT Right-of-Way Plan Reading Workshop last year are encouraged to do so this year at the Northeast location, as it may be several years before it is offered again. This workshop is geared toward those county government employees dealing with cadastral mapping. It will be led by an employee of the NC DOT Right-of-Way Division.

The NC Floodmapping Workshop is being presented by the NC Floodmapping Program. The workshop will cover use of the NCFloodmaps.com website and reading the new paper maps. It is geared toward any government employee who deals with floodmaps in digital or hard-copy form, especially floodplain administrators, who are often in Planning Departments, but also toward Property Mappers or GIS personnel who may be responsible for making this data available to the appropriate agencies within their administration. Property Mappers are encouraged to inform the Planning Department of their counties and municipalities therein of this workshop which could be of great interest to them.
